My music selection at the moment is pretty mellow. Currently playing is Tegan and Sara’s “Beauty” from their Yellow Demo.
Before that — and that’s what prompted me to write this — was another new (to me anyways) String Quartet release: “History Repeats — A String Quartet Tribute to Bad Religion” [DL]. In general I like the String Quartet series and along with the Rockabye Baby releases it’s a nice fall-asleep-to and wind-down-from-stressful-days change in my musical world of guitars and drums.
While some of the String Quartet releases seem to be a bit mass produced and not very in-depth, this Bad Religion tribute is really a release I can recommend. “Infected” is a mucho bello classical tune and already one of my all time favorite guitar-gone-violin tracks.
I’m in a very acoustic mood today… so I would like to share a couple of songs that are helping me through the heat and sunshine in the office right now. Both albums are really recommended as well…
I still remember the feeling, when I heard Blink 182’s “What’s my age again” for the first time on MTV, in the fall of ‘99. Apart from a couple of compilation tracks, this was the first time I really got in touch with them. When I spent a week in Geneva then, I bought myself “Enema of the State” (along with the “Buried Alive” album… what a mix) and listened to it most of the week when wandering the fancy streets of this lakeside city. In hindsight, the album was something that comes along maybe once every couple of years. Driving to work just now, I heard the current single of a band I know nothing about yet, but it reminded me an awful lot of the feeling I got back then. Maybe it’s, cos the vocals sound much like Tom DeLonge’s to me. Maybe it’s just some fresh air and the modernized version of what Blink used to be back then. Or maybe it’s just a fad and I won’t actually listen to this anymore in a week. I feel differently though. Either way, it’s “Look See Proof” with “Casualty”. Now I need to track down the album to see if that can hold up like “Enema” once did.
