yesterday was great

haven’t had this much fun in quite a while. aside from the fact that the weather was great, and i could actually go out short-sleeved, it was the first day in a long time, that meg and i actually got to spend time and do fun stuff together. first at the mall - haircut and winter-sale at zumiez, then we got the pup and went over to dad’s to pick up the TV-card. afterwards to the dog park. it was muddier than when we were there the night before. i had to carry him the last part of the way to the car - we still don’t know if he hurt his paws or was just tired or cold at the end at the park. then we brought bug back home. however - when we got there, Jamie, the neighbor, actually recognized me from the paper. woooooow :-P
alright - after that, over to circuit city, returned the old TV card - then over to Eddie Cheng’s, to try some new chinese. and we got a lot.
then, back home, and watched “domino”. it was a bit more confusing than expected, and thus i think i have to watch that flick again - meg liked it. that’s pretty much it…
today i need to finish up the secu-tech stuff and try to get at the ce prost as well as the gender studies thesis. i should try to get to the Nada surf pictures from Saturday too. good show btw - and i finally got to try my new 80-200 nikkor baby.

Burnsville This Week Article: Sexy on veggies

Sexy on veggies - He’s young, he’s vegan, and PETA people think he’s hot.

Burnsville resident Sid Rader is also surprised and slightly amused to be one of 10 male finalists in the “Sexiest Vegetarian Alive” contest sponsored by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

“I don’t consider myself that great-looking,” said the native Austrian, who just turned 26. “I don’t think I’m the ugliest. It’s hard to evaluate yourself. I guess it’s kind of a fun thing. It might give me more of a voice to speak out on the whole topic.”

Rader’s fiancee, Meghan Fleming, entered him in the contest by sending a picture to PETA’s GoVeg.com Web site. Online viewers liked what they saw, making him a finalist from among the “hundreds of sultry soy boys and Tofutti cuties” entered, PETA says. A male and female winner will be announced in late March.

Rader grew up in the Austrian city of Wels. A hardcore punk- rock fan with left-wing political views and an interest in human rights, he met the like-minded Fleming online in 1999. He came to Minnesota to visit in 2000, and the couple have been together ever since.

Newspaper Article Burnsville.Thisweek 2006-03-05Now Rader splits his time between their Burnsville apartment and Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria, where he studies business informatics when school is in session. He also attended Fort Hays State University in Kansas, where he was an award-winning student photographer.

Rader swore off meat in his mid-teens after watching a documentary about the cruelty of cattle transport in the Mediterranean Sea.

Pioneer Press Article: Sexiest Vegetarian

Local man could be sexiest vegetarian
Who knew being a vegetarian could look so good?

Newspaper Article: Pioneer PressNot 26-year-old Sid Rader of Burnsville - one of 10 male finalists in a worldwide search to find the sexiest vegetarians. His girlfriend secretly submitted his photo for the annual contest, created by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Rader is the first Minnesotan ever to make the final cut since the contest started three years ago, said Reannon Peterson, PETA spokeswoman. The group picked him from a field of more than 250 men who submitted snapshots for this year’s contest.

“I don’t really consider myself the sexiest,” Rader said.

The PETA group picked 20 female and male finalists based on their inner and outer beauty, Peterson said. People can vote online until March 31 for their favorite vegetarian at www.goveg.com. The winning king and queen will get animal-safe gifts, such as a faux-fur hat and faux-leather shoes, and cosmetics not tested on animals.

Rader, originally from Austria, became a vegan after watching a video about the suffering animals endure when taken from factory farms to slaughterhouses.

“It might give me more ways and more means to promote veganism,” Rader said. “It’s nice to have a platform to speak out to the cause.”
